Several months ago I embarked on a new chapter. I moved to SE Asia; specifically the Philippines.
Over the last five months I’ve enjoyed many experiences that have made me smile, afraid, doubt, sad, give, takeaway, rethink, trust, untrust, and grateful to name a few.
I’m living outside of my comfort zone and living my dream.
Two people who inspired me to start my journey are Herman and Candelaria Zapp. In 16 years the Zapp’s have driven to 50 countries, logged over 250K miles, with virtually no money, in a 1928 Graham Paige car having a top speed of 35mph.
But it’s just a matter of starting. All it takes to accomplish every dream is to start. – Herman Zapp
What happens to most people is one day they get a spark of inspiration about their dream. “I’m going for it!” they say. But then, they become all tied up in knots about how they’re actually going to get there. Their Itty Bitty Shitty Committee kicks in telling them all the reasons why they will fail. So, they never begin.
The dream is buried before it’s even taken it’s first breath.
I would rather die trying to live, than having died without having lived. – Herman Zapp
What about you?
How many more days, weeks, months, years, or decades are you willing to keep your dream on hold?
Your dream might be:
- To become an entrepreneur
- Travel the world
- Transition to another career
- Scuba dive halfway across the globe
- To start a non profit or NGO
- To paint or sculpt a beautiful creation
- Become a globetrotting business and life coach
Truth be told, when I work with a client, I have no idea how they’re going to crush their endgame. Many times the client doesn’t even know themselves.
In fact, I can have three clients with the exact same goal, dream, or challenge and I’ll guarantee they’ll each take a unique path to cross the finish line.
Then again, there is one thing in common with all my clients.
They were all willing and able to start.
What will tell you it’s time to start?
Good stuff. One of my friends has embarked on quite the trek. He’s walking the entire Route 66 and plans on completing the entire trek in 8 months… and he’s 63! He just decided to go for it and, with some contributions and the assistance of some of the people he’s met along the way he’s enjoying the journey to the fullest.
As for me… well, that’s a tale for another time. 🙂
Wow Mitch, that’s a cool journey. Being he’s 63, it proves your dream doesn’t care how old you are!
