I was inspired by by Google Software Engineer Matt Cutts speech at a TED conference about his 30 day challenge. I’m curious how you’d complete a 30 day challenge. So, I’m asking you to help me with a mini research project.
So, here’s what I’d like you to do:
- Pick something you want more of in your life and do it once a day, for 30 days.
- Record your thoughts. Send me an email Steve@endgamebusiness.com and share what’s going on.
- If you prefer, come back to this post and record your thoughts in the comments section during the 30 day challenge.
- Describe your experience. Was it hard, easy , or somewhere in between?
- Did you follow through?
- What kept you going?
- What roadblocks did you face?
- Are you glad you did it?
- Will you do it again?
I’ll compile the information and write about our findings in a future blog post.
Let’s do this!
Share your challenge in the comment section below. I’ll GO first!
I will attend yoga classes, once a day, for 30 days.
My 30 day challenge is to take a yoga class, once a day, for 30 days.
Been there, done that, probably won’t ever do it again. At the time I was committed, so much so that I actually not only did it 30 days in a row, but I did it 57 days out of 60, but sometimes did it twice a day and thus did it 65 times out of those 60 days. Did it because I promised myself I’d do it, was committed to it, and now I can barely even think about doing it, let alone going to the place where I was doing it.
I know that’s not really how it’s supposed to work but that’s how it was for me unfortunately. Yeah, I know, I haven’t said what it was; doesn’t really matter. 🙂
Well, at least you challenged yourself.
Is there something else you can do for 30 days? This could be something simple.
For example, about eight years ago, I made a point of making my bed as the first thing I did for the day. It gives me a sense of accomplishment before the day begins.
After eight years, my streak is still alive.
okay, I am in. For me it needs to be exercise. I have not been doing as well with it recently. I am excited that you will be doing yoga for 30 days…I have done that and it is helpful in many ways.
Go for it Karin. Record your thoughts along the way!
That’s odd, I was JUST revisiting Matt Cutts TED talk y’day and thought this would be a great project to do. I did Shawn Achors Happiness Project <a ref="http://www.tellyouaboutit.com/2012/06/happiness-project.html" in June/July and found it extremely interesting AND helpful.
Will have to think about my challenge….will check back on your YOGA progress.
Welcome Susanna. Your 30 day challenge can be something simple or big. It doesn’t matter. As long as you sustain it for 30 days.
Please record your thoughts and drop me a line along the way to let me know how it’s going!
Thanks for stopping by!
Wow Steve, I’m really going to have to think about this one. Huh… What do I want to do and commit 30 days to. Jeez, I really don’t know. I guess I better put my thinking cap on.
Yoga is NOT on my agenda that’s for sure. I walk everyday so I am getting exercise and away from the computer. I eat good so I don’t need to lose any weight. There isn’t anything I can think of right now off the top of my head but I’ll give it some thought. Dang, there I go having to think again.
Good luck with this and hopefully I’ll be back. Until then, enjoy your week.
~Adrienne
Eight years ago, I said the first thing I’m going to do to start my day is make my bed. The streak is still alive.
Adrienne, your 30 day can be anything. Drink the proper amount of water a day. Compliment a loved one or even a stranger. Give a smile to anyone you meet.
I hope you pick one thing.
Steve. What a great topic… ! Today represents 29 days completed of 40 days of personal revolution of Vinyasa Power Yoga! Going into the program I committed 100% to finishing, My mind was set! I became a Yes! and I came from the mindset of “I am ready NOW” and I gave up what I must to get what I want: to complete! Journaling daily certainly helps sustains energy and attending daily practice, six days a week, in the studio filled with so much energy, it is still an amazing experience! I am 11 days toward my goal, my challenge and a life changing experience. I am committed!
Michelle that is magnifico! You were the inspiration for my personal challenge. I love the phrase “I became a Yes!” I’m gonna borrow that girl! Rock on to the finish! Let me know how you celebrate the moment.
Okay Steve I’ll give it a try. Currently I am working full time and taking a full time Six Sigma Black Belt course. My 30 day challenge will be to exercise every day. Maybe this will help tip the scales downward since Weight Watchers and limited exercise alone is not working.
Black Belt! Holy snikeys! You’ve got so much dormant potential.
Looking forward to hearing your progress.
Please record your thoughts along the way. How were you feeling on day one? Day 21? Describe your thoughts.
Thanks.
Love this and I will post after the debate. Check out the site I just put up Entrepreneur’s Wall of Intention….for this type of focus. However, this format might work better technologically…..
I like it and will play! Thank you for this. Living with Intention is important to me….just might be my challenge….
Daphne
K. Intention it is. Record your thoughts and let me know what happens along the way Daphne!
I am thinking that I will eat healthy as in only fruits and vegetables for 30 days. I currently do not eat meat however, I do find myself getting into the junk food junkie stage during winter months. Only fruits and vegetables in mass quantity for 30 days…..starting tomorrow 😉
Wow! Don’t you need fats and carbs?
Please capture your daily thoughts and send them to me during the journey or at the end.
30 days? Well the last 6 months I quit working in business and have been a candidate for NY Assembly. I think come Nov 6th I’ll spend 30 days sleeping. 🙂
As far as a 30 day challenge. I just can’t think of one yet but I will.
— Levi
K, Levi, pick one thing and begin.
Good luck in the election.
I plan to play violin 5 min every day for 30 days, starting today.
I love string instruments.
Let me know how you’re doing and what you’re feeling during the challenge.
Great idea but as someone said earlier, this is making me have to THINK too much, which is difficult right now! Once I (hopefully) recover from severe jet lag I will definitely give it some thought. Good luck with your yoga 🙂
What a surprise! Hi Suzanne!
What’s one small thing you can do for 30 days?
Please, please, please don’t forget to record or journal your daily thoughts during the 30 Day Challenge. If you can.
I’m really interested in what you’re thinking and feeling on a daily basis.
After three days of yoga, I’m noticing my body adjusting, changing, and getting stronger.
Thought about this for a while, and decided that while I’m already a creature of habit(s), I would like to spend a few minute stretching every day as I *know* it would be a good addition to my day. So that’s my challenge… just a 5-10 minute session, can be morning or night so long as I do it. 🙂
Nice surprise to see you here Nancy! Welcome.
I wish I knew how good stretching was for me many years ago.
Welcome to the challenge. Please journal along the way to notice the changes.
On Oct. 10, I began the 40 Days of Prayer that Friends United Meeting is doing (http://fum.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/40-Days-of-Prayer-devotional-guide.pdf) and I’ve done each devotional on the correct day! I was doing them first thing in the morning, but this past week I found myself doing them at other times of the day. And some days, I re-read the devotional a couple of times or go back and re-read something from a previous day. I have been surprised when the text aligns with what is going on in my life that day!
One reason I decided to do this is because I need to build Sabbath time into my days and I’ve been doing that. (Read “Sabbath” by Wayne Muller which I would happily loan to you.) I need meditative time or time apart in order to re-energize. With my schedule, I don’t always get it. This, though, is helping me put that time into each day. The challenge will be to keep it going after the 40 days are up!
Jill, I’d encourage you to journal about the experience and record what comes up for you. It would be great to speak with you after your 40 days.
Feel free to come back and post again.
