How much do you remember about the behavioral assessments you’ve taken?
Here’s what most likely happened to the masses. You took the assessment. Got the results. Perused the report. Maybe, if you’re lucky, sat down with your boss to go over the results. Then you filed said report, never to look at it again. Right?
When I ask people about an assessment experience, this is their typical story.
After evaluating almost every assessment used in the people business, I chose TriMetrix HD from TTI Success Insights as my go to assessment of choice.
Business leaders understand the need to go beyond the traditional resume, interview and yearly review process. They instead use accurate, bias-free assessments to critique individual performance, such as the TriMetrix HD.
You’re probably asking why I chose TriMetrix HD?
Trimetrix HD is a multivariate assessment that uncovers multiple layers of the individual.
Second, this assessment will add hard and soft dollars to your business.
Let’s take a closer look at the assessment that eclipses all others:
TriMetrix® HD
The layers:
Behaviors/DISC – the HOW
DISC is a behavior assessment tool that measures HOW a person behaves in four proportions:
- Dominance
- Influence
- Steadiness
- Compliance
Behaviors uncovers how an individual will perform, what value they’ll bring to a team, they’re ideal working environment and challenges they may face.
Think of DISC as how someone shows up on a day to day basis.
Motivators/Values – PIAV – the WHY
Also known as Personal Interests, Attitudes, and Values, measures six areas:
- Theoretical
- Utilitarian
- Aesthetic
- Social
- Individualistic
- Traditional
Motivators/values reveals WHY a person acts a certain way – what motivates he or she to perform a job.
Think of motivators or values as to WHY an individual is motivated for the long haul.
Acumen – the CAN
Measured in three dimensions of thought:
- Intrinsic
- Extrinsic
- Systemic
These are measured in both the world and self views.
Acumen, or a person’s keenness and depth of perception, will identify how a person thinks and makes decisions and will clarify one’s natural abilities or capacities.
This slice of Trimetrix HD shows how the person sees themselves and the world.
Competencies – the WHAT
Measured in 23 to 25 research-based personal skills directly related to the business environment, Competencies are defined on three levels:
- Mastery
- Some mastery
- No mastery
Applied in conjunction with a job benchmark, Competencies ensure the inherent skills of each individual, match the soft skills required by the job.
This is awesome!
Emotional Intelligence or Emotional Quotient – the SENSE
Measured in five areas within interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence, Emotional Intelligence (also referred to as EQ) is an individual’s ability to sense, understand and effectively apply the power and acumen of emotions to facilitate high levels of collaboration and productivity.
This assessment is a good starting point for the client. I don’t need the assessment to coach the individual. The almost 80 page report is a reflection document for them. “A mirror into my soul” as one client put it.
Trimetrix HD can be used for:
- Talent Selection and Retention
- Job Matching
- Aligning Talent Management to Strategic Planning
- Employee Coaching and Development
- Performance Appraisals
- Succession Planning & Organizational Development
Trimetrix HD is guaranteed to deliver an ROI to your company for years to come.
Your only regret will be not having used Trimetrix HD sooner. Ya, it’s that good.

Wow… that seems like a really comprehensive view. I find that the most important part of any assessment is the conversation that follows.
Exactly. The assessment report is a great place to jump start the conversation.
As I mentioned in the post, assessments can be used in over a half dozen areas of the business.
Hey Steve,
Now you know I’m commenting from the other side of that, the one that actually took those test and I filed mine away too. Of course I’m been out of corporate America for awhile now and if I recall correctly, I bet I’ve only taken one or two of those, most companies didn’t have us do that.
I have been in the hiring process before though and can see where they would be extremely helpful. So many people can lie on a resume and I guess on those tests too but for the most part I think you can tell so much more from a candidate who has taken one of those having done that myself. That’s been my experience of course.
Which one is the best, I’ll definitely leave that one up to you Steve. I trust your judgement.

These surveys do a great job of bringing out the underlying layers of the person.
They’re quite accurate.
If a person doesn’t tell the truth on the survey, I can uncover that in the debrief.
Thanks Adrienne for your comment.
Hi Steve,
I’ve always been fascinated by these behavior assessments. I get such a kick out of them. I have to admit though that I have not heard of these. As times go on, they come up with newer ones and I’m a bit older but they are all good and give you insight into people’s personality which can help us in business.
Great info and thanks for keeping me updated on the newest and the greatest.
Barbara
There are lots of assessments to choose from. This one is three assessments in one. Should actually be called Quad vs. Tri because it has a touch of emotional intelligence thrown in.
The key to assessments are what you with them after you’ve received your report. This is where most people fall short.
Not me. I leverage the contents of the report to help the client move closer to their endgame.
Thanks for stopping by Barbara. I enjoyed reading your blog.
